Dr. Cathal Moran

Cartilage Repair Research Fellow, REMEDI and Clinical Fellow in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital / NSAFP cathaljmoran@gmail.com

Cathal is investigating novel mechanisms of MSC- based tissue engineering for the surgical repair of injured articular cartilage and meniscus.

Researcher in

Research Project Area:

We are investigating the role of mesenchymal stem cells and tissue engineering in cartilage and meniscal repair. In addition to the orthobiologic faculty & researchers at REMEDI, including Professor Frank Barry, Dr Mary Murphy, Dr Valerie Barron and Professor Timothy O Brien, this work involves a collaboration with Dr Scott Rodeo, Dr Russell Warren and Dr Suzanne Maher at the Hospital for Special Surgery / Weill-Cornell Medical College in New York and also with Harvard Medical School in Boston. There is a particular focus on translational research in this program.

Positions Held:

2011 – Clinical Fellow in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital / HSE-HRB NSAFP Fellow
2010 – Post-doctoral research fellow, REMEDI (NSAFP)
