Aim of the Programmes: To foster positive attitudes to Science and encourage students to develop an appreciation of the contribution that Science and Technology has in their everyday lives.
Programme Type 1
Programmes are run in primary schools usually in the age range of 10 to12 year olds anything from fourth class to sixth class. The format we use is interactive whereby 3/4 researchers together with the education outreach programme manager present a variety of subjects incorporating the Social Environmental and Scientific Education (SESE) curriculum for Primary Schools. The subjects chosen range from the properties of light to an investigation of the eye. The work in carried out in groups with one researcher to each group. The programme usually runs over a four week period and each class is approximately 80 minutes duration.
Programme Type 2
Primary students visit the AO group over a two day period where they interacted with four other research groups. Taking part in some hand on experiments and visits to working laboratories where they got an over view of some of the research being carried out in the Group. |
