Profile

Liz Ball's doctoral thesis is entitled Truth, Power and Bloody Sunday.  This study is a comparison of the competing and complementary representations of the events of Bloody Sunday in the Saville Inquiry and in two docudramas released while the Inquiry was in session; namely Jimmy McGovern’s Sunday and Paul Greengrass’s Bloody Sunday. I intend to analyze how they differ in storytelling methods, in claims to truth, and in influences; both incoming and outgoing. Eventually I will draw conclusions as to official inquiry’s right to claim its outcome as the authoritative truth, and drama/documentary’s entitlement to a place in academic historical debate.
