Angela Healy
2nd year BA in Community and Family Studies 2012
I work full time in a disadvantaged area as a community employment supervisor. The course appealed to me because it has relevance to the type of work I do at present and the work I would like to do in the future. I needed a course that would allow me to continue to work full- time. The workshops are very interesting and bring you into contact with the other students, which is very affirming. Many of the tutors have practical experience of working in the community or with families and this is very useful and thought provoking for me as a student. There is comprehensive feedback given to you on work that you submit which helps keep you on the right track and gives you great direction.
The encouragement you receive from the tutors is also brilliant for a distance learning course. I also felt if I had a difficulty either practical or otherwise I could contact Fiona the Programme Administrator who is always patient and accommodating. I am a very mature student who was apprehensive about taking on this course but I am delighted I did. After all, with the retirement age rising we will all have to work longer and its never too late to get an academic qualification.
