Kitty Flynn
4th year student of BA in Community and Family Studies 2012
I am a mature student on the BA course, Community and Family Studies being delivered in Mullingar by NUI Galway. I sometimes ask myself ’Why am I doing this?
But those moments of misgivings are fleeting and are quickly replaced by the pride and the pleasure at being part of the Mullingar group of students. I arrived there through Kilbeggan Active Retirement Association and I am sponsored by the Westmeath Community and Voluntary Forum and the Vocational Education Committee.
The first module of the course was on Sociology and I have been hooked ever since; each module and workshop has been a joy and the pleasure the students get from the workshops is palpable.
Most of the students are working in community development projects or in something similar and the modules seem to be designed with their jobs in mind and an eye on their work life balance.
The tutor support for the independent research project is very satisfactory. So far everything has gone without a hitch and we cannot speak too highly of the support we get from the course managers and from the administration office in Galway.
