Sinead Bohan
Student of the Diploma in Community Development Practice, 2011 - 2012
I chose the course in Community Development Practice, as I wanted increase my skills and learn more about community development. Having previously studied fulltime for a BA and MA I wanted to do a course that allowed me to work and study at the same time. This course has been fantastic. It has provided me with a solid understanding of the theory and practice of community development. The practical skills I have learnt from this course have really increased my confidence and have proved to be invaluable in my work.
I really enjoyed the field trips we did on the course it was great to see the theory being implemented in to practice. I found the workload manageable and relevant to the practice of community development.
The course not only challenges you to question society, but also yourself and why you want to work in community development. If you have a particular area of interest in community development this course allows you to share that interest, whilst also learning of other areas of interest.
The tutors are excellent. They are approachable and supportive. I really enjoyed the guest tutors we had during the course. It was great to learn from people working on the ground in front line services. The people I met on the course have been wonderful.
I have learnt a lot from them and it has been great learning and sharing our experiences with one another. Whether you are volunteering, working or have a general interest in community development / community activism, I would highly recommend this course to you!
