Environmental and Natural Resource Economics Research Unit
Welcome to the Environmental and Natural Resource Economics Unit(ENRE)
We are a research and teaching group within the School of Business and Economics at NUIG, Ireland. The unit has 1 professor, 1 senior lecturer 5 lecturers, 1 senior research fellow, 3 postdoctoral research fellows and about 15 PhD students. The group’s focus is on empirical and theoretical aspects of the economics of the environment, sustainability, renewable energy, marine resources, international trade and rural development. The economics discipline at NUIG has long been a leading research centre, on the environment and rural development involving dozens of faculty and hundreds of students from across the university with research interests in the environment over the years. We actively collaborate with researchers in other Research Institutes such as the Environmental Change Institute and other schools (including the Business School, Engineering, Geography, Politics and Sociology, Microbiology and Earth and Ocean Sciences) and with economists elsewhere in Ireland and abroad. Work within the group has been funded by bodies including the European Union, the Department of Agriculture fisheries and Food, the Marine Institute.
ENRE is also associated with a doctoral programme offered by the Discipline of Economics in which students can pursue research on environmental and resource economics and rural development as well as a taught masters degree in Economic and Environmental
Modelling.
