The Marine Modelling Centre was established in 2003 as a centre in Ireland for the post-graduate teaching and research in numerical modelling of marine systems. Physically, the MMC is located in the Martin Ryan Marine Institute at the National University of Ireland, Galway.
Research activities in the group include three-dimensional modelling of the NE Atlantic and other smaller water bodies around the Irish coast, scale modelling of tidal flows, water quality modelling and biological modelling.
The group consists of two permanent staff, one postdoctoral researcher, and six postgraduate students.
The university houses an SGI Origin 3800 supercomputer which the group utilises for its modelling activities.
