SUPERGEN Bioenergy
Supergen Bioenergy is a UK based consortium of academic, research and
industrial organisations aimed at advancing and developing the UK
bioenergy research and industry sectors.

PROJECT AIMS:
The project will study production and conversion of different types of biomass in a bioenergy and biorefinery context. Systems studies are included to evaluate the wider implications and impacts of various bioenergy chains.
The project is divided into themes:
- Resources (sub-theme: Marine Biomass).
- Characterisation and Pre-treatment (sub-theme: Nitrogen).
- Thermal Conversion.
- Power and Heat.
- Transport, fuels & biorefinery (sub-theme: Ammonia).
- Innovation.
- Systems Analysis.
- Dissemination.
The involvement of the ISRG in this project is based around provision of an estimate of the wild biomass potential of the UK and Ireland. This will be estimated using a combination of field survey data, literature reviews, and mapping techniques. We will also make an assessment of the potential impacts of harvesting based on the current literature.
