4. Principal Research Fellowships* - This is the most prestigious of the WT personal awards and provides long-term support for researchers of international standing. Senior Research Fellowships in Clinical Science - This scheme provides support for clinical investigators to further develop their research potential and to establish themselves as leading investigators in clinical academic medicine. 5 year support. This is an annual competition. The 2010/11 competition is now closed – details of next year’s competition will be announced in 2011.

6. Senior Research Fellowships in Basic Biomedical Science  - This scheme provides support for outstanding postdoctoral. Candidates are expected to have an excellent track record in their scientific field and be able to demonstrate their ability to carry out independent research. 5 year support. 7. Intermediate Clinical Fellowships - This scheme is for medical, dental, veterinary or clinical psychology graduates who have had an outstanding start to their research career. It will enable successful candidates to continue their research interests at a postdoctoral level in an appropriate unit or clinical research facility. Support for up to 4 or 5 years.

8. Research Career Development Fellowships in Basic Biomedical Science - This scheme provides an opportunity for postdoctoral scientists from across the remits of the Trust's funding streams to become independent research scientists and undertake high-quality research. 5 year support.

Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellowships -This fellowship provides a unique opportunity for the most promising newly qualified postdoctoral researchers to make an early start in developing their independent research careers. Candidates will be expected to identify an important biomedical research question and to develop and deliver a personal programme to achieve their research aims. 4 year full-time fellowship.

11. Postdoctoral Training Fellowship for MB/PhD Graduates - This scheme provides a unique opportunity for the most promising newly qualified MB/PhD graduates, or those who have achieved a high-quality PhD during or before starting their medical degree. It will enable successful candidates to make an early start in developing their independent research careers, by undertaking a period of postdoctoral training in the best laboratories in the UK and overseas, and can be tailored to allow them to continue their postgraduate clinical training. 12. Career Re-entry Fellowships -This scheme is for postdoctoral scientists who have recently decided to recommence a scientific research career after a continuous break of at least two years.
