Scorpion Border Networks (SBN)

Scorpion Border Networks (SBN) was established in May 2007 in Ireland Reg. 332056, to address the worldwide land and sea border security market. SBN has been involved with consortia in FP7 and EDA proposals on land and sea borders, CBNRE detection platforms and IED remote location systems. SBN is a partner in a successfully funded project in FP7 2011 (Handhold- CBNRE handheld detection platform). The head office is located in Co. Kildare, Ireland. Scorpion Networks Ltd. was incorporated in 2010 (Reg. Number 491199) and has had ownership of SBN transferred to this company. Owner directors Brendan McGlynn and William Crean have extensive experience in worldwide telecommunications projects, security projects, electronics volume manufacturing, P2P, PmP and GSM wireless networks planning and project management of multinational projects up to Euro 150 million in value. The SBN team has extensive civil security experience and infrastructure repair in conflict zones. SBN has established itself in a fully equipped Micro Electronics & Wireless laboratory on the NUI Maynooth campus close to its head office and is building its engineering team based on masters’ level electronics engineers. SBN has access to a wide range of sensor technologies for Security, ICT and eHealth. SBN is developing a WiFi based RFID system for rough environments and triage security situations. SBN is currently involved in 2 other H2020 proposals in Security and in a range of bio sensory and RFID systems targeting early detection of pathogens and cancers.

Brendan McGlynn, CEO, Scorpion Networks Ltd

Brendan McGlynn has worldwide experience in Data Processing, Communications and Security Systems (inc. conflict zones) covering Avionics, Airline main frames and global networks, SITA networks, Radar, OTH Communications and PmP Networks. Brendan managed cellular network’s microwave link development for MOPTT (Saudi), Kuwait, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands and managed teams of RF planning engineers on GSM network design. As sales manager with AT&T Brendan sold and managed close on €1 billion (PDV) of global contracts.

In recent years Brendan has concentrated on CBNRE sensor solutions to facilitate smaller more compact detection systems for Security and Health. Brendan holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) degree from University College Cork and completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree course in University College Dublin.

William Crean, CFO, Scorpion Networks Ltd

William Crean is an Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, being admitted as a fellow in 2000 and a GCMA (Chartered Global Management accountant) in 2012. From 1999 to 2013 William operated a private management accounting consultancy for SME's but nowadays chooses to concentrate on his own business interests.

Over the years he has gained substantial experience in volume electronics manufacturing. Accounting Practice, Insurance and Distribution businesses. William is responsible for overseeing SBN’s FP7 and H2020 project accounting and administration.

 

Conor O'Rourke, CTO, Scorpion Networks Ltd

Conor has extensive embedded processor hardware and software knowledge spanning a 25 year career in software, quality assurance, systems administration and embedded systems across the EU and Canada. Conor’s recent FP7 and H2020 experience covers embedded processors for CBNRE, micro actuators, 3D printing, electronic board fabrication and software and device driver development. Conor holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from University College Dublin.
