Visiting Students

Visiting students, including EU (ERASMUS/SOCRATES) students and non-EU students interested in following undergraduate courses in Botany and Plant Science should contact the Admissions and International Offices of the University.

Potential students should consider the prerequisites for Botany and Plant Science modules; for example entry into 2nd year modules will require the successful completion of a foundation course in biology that is equivalent to our First Year Biology module; for 3rd year modules, in addition to a background in general biology, completion of previous studies in botany/plant science/plant biology or equivalent will be expected.

NUI Galway has a number of Erasmus exchange schemes with universities across the EU which plant science students can avail of to spend some time in Botany and Plant Science in NUI Galway.

As in the case of Irish students, assessment is by continuous assessment (laboratory component) and written examinations. The latter take place in early December and late April/early May, in the case of courses given in Semesters I and II, respectively.

International students wishing to pursue a PhD or Masters degree should make contact with a potential supervisor (academic member of staff) for details on available projects and competitive funding opportunities. These are typically advertised nationally or internationally, and on the NUI Galway website.

Internships

Students wishing to visit our research labs as summer/research interns should contact academic staff. We welcome students from Europe and further afield, and have recently hosted a number of Science without Borders students from Brazil, and students who are conducting their studies at NUI Galway or as part of their postgraduate studies abroad.
