IRC-funded PhD Scholar

Jamie MaxwellJamie became fascinated in the deep sea during his BSc in Marine Science in NUI Galway. He further developed his skills and knowledge in the field during his MSc in Marine Biology in the University of Algarve, Portugal. His MSc thesis used morphological and molecular analysis to investigate deep-sea polychaetes from the genus Gorgoniapolynoe, resulting in him describing a new species. He started his PhD, which is cosupervised by Dr Huw Griffiths from British Antarctic Survey, in 2019. He is investigating the phylogeny and biogeography of Antarctic deep-sea pycnogonids (sea spiders).
