Erasmus Opportunities for College and Science and Engineering students in University of Galway
Consider our international exchange opportunities

OUTGOING EXCHANGES FOR 2024/25

Exchanges are offered during the 3rd year of pathways and programmes.  Applicants must have an overall average of 65% in the first sitting in their first year examinations to be eligible to apply.  The selection process will include shortlisting and an interview.

A semester studying abroad substitutes for learning in Galway so students complete equivalent coursework at the host and receive a grade reflecting their achievement that contributes to their University of Galway degree.

Note that Erasmus refers to a scheme funded by EU enabling students to study in other EU countries. Sometimes the term “Erasmus” is mistakenly used to refer to any type mobility to study in another country (eg US or Hong Kong) even though this is not under the Erasmus scheme.

Application Process

The selection process includes an application form, shortlisting and an interview. See the  Information for CSE Outgoing Exchanges document (downloads automatically).

Applicants must:

  • Be studying for a programme that enables exchange semesters.
  • Have an overall average over 65% in the first sitting in their first year examinations.
  • Confirm that they fully understand the personal financial commitment required.

Please apply using the online form: Study Abroad Application Form

  • Applications close on Friday, April 5th.
  • Shortlisted candidates notified by end April
  • Online interviews date TBC
  • Offers announced by June 30th.
International Host Partners
The College of Science and Engineering is normally able to offer opportunities with the following partners. Details may be subject to change. Students remain registered for their University of Galway degree so there is no tuition fee at the host.

All travel, accommodation, insurance, living and personal expense costs are the responsibility of students. A limited amount of funding is provided that varies by host. There is a significant personal cost to participate in exchanges.

Erasmus Exchanges

What is Erasmus?

“Erasmus” is a specific scheme for student exchange to host universities within Europe with whom we have agreements. This is separate from the College Exchanges to international partners outside the EU.  Sometimes the term “Erasmus” is mistakenly used to refer to any type mobility to study in another country (eg US or Hong Kong) even though this is not under the Erasmus scheme.

Further information about Erasmus is available from the International Office Erasmus Outgoing Students pages.

Erasmus Taught Semesters

The College of Science and Engineering has Erasmus exchange agreements with a number of EU Universities, allowing students to spend 1-2 semesters hosted at the partner.

Applications for Erasmus Taught Semesters in EU use the same selection process as College Exchanges outside EU.

 ‌

Erasmus for Undergraduate Programmes

Certain programmes have Erasmus agreements enabling their students to study at additional partners. These are restricted and are notified directly to students within the relevant programmes.

Erasmus Internships

Certain programmes such as Biotechnology and Engineering have Erasmus agreements enabling internships. These are restricted and are notified directly to students within the relevant programmes.
