Research Interests

My research focus is the ecology and physiology of cold water seaweeds and their response to changes within their environment. I use novel and interdisciplinary techniques to answer questions about the 1) how seaweeds structure and influence biodiversity of marine habitats, 2) how seaweeds interact with microorganisms in these habitats (the microbiome), 3) the physiological characteristics that allow seaweeds to survive in high-latitude and cold water environments, and 4) what this means for future marine communities in a high CO2 climate. These research lines can be applied to marine systems worldwide.
