Biography

Dr. Freddy Guihéneuf holds a BSc in General Biology in "Earth Sciences and Universe” and a Master degree specialty "Mechanism and Finalization of Marine Bioproduction" from Université de Nantes (France). Dr. Guihéneuf also received a PhD in Biology from Université du Maine (France) focused on the regulation by environmental factors of the long chain fatty acids synthesis in different species of marine microalgae. After his PhD, Dr. Guihéneuf worked two years as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Microalgal Biotechnology Laboratory from Prof. Sammy Boussiba (Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel). The aim of his research project was to use genetic engineering approaches for enhanced oil and lipid production from microalgae. Between 2012 and 2015, Dr. Guihéneuf held a Postdoctoral position with Dr. Dagmar B. Stengel from the Ryan Institute at the National University of Ireland, Galway. His project involved the cultivation of microalgae, extraction and analysis of bioactive compounds, for the development of marine-based functional foods, and the optimisation of algal production (NutraMara Project). More recently, Dr Guihéneuf was in charge of R&D as Microalgal Biotechnologist in a Irish green bio-technology company Algae Health Ltd. producing Haematococcus pluvialis as source of Astaxanthin.

Today, Dr. Guihéneuf is Postdoctoral Researcher in Dr. Dagmar B. Stengel's Group working on the project NEPTUNA - Novel Extraction Processes for mulTiple high-value compoUNds from selected Algal source materials. Funded by the Marine Biotechnology ERA-NET (ERA-MarineBiotech) and the Marine Institute (Ireland).
