Biography

I have over eighteen years of teaching and lecturing experience at third level in Ireland.  Prior to taking up my position as College Lecturer at the Shannon College of Hotel Management in August 2001, I was previously employed on a contract basis in the Cork Institute of Technology (formerly Regional Technical College Cork) between 1996 and 1997.  I taught a number of economics and statistics modules across a range of certificate, diploma and degree programmes at the institute.  In particular, I taught Fundamentals of Business Economics to evening students on the Charter Institute of Management Accounting professional programme.  I also taught Economics, Statistics and Tourism studies on certificate and diploma programmes at Griffith College Cork (formerly Skerry’s Business College).

Since 2001, I manage and teach seven modules across the Bachelor of Business Studies in International Hotel Management (Level 8) and Bachelor of Commerce programmes.  Thematically, my modules encompass a blend of both technically-based and management-based learning covering three of the four years of the degree programme.

Research Interests

I am interested in the measurement, evaluation of organisational and work environment factors that both positively and negatively impact on the motivation, satisfaction and job-related performance of employees within the workplace.  In particular, my research focuses on Social Exchange Theory and the interplay of exchange-driven phenomena through the development, maintenance and variability of an individual’s Psychological Contract along with Organisational Support variables, and the consequential outcomes of these phenomena.

I am interested the area of Albert Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory/Social Learning Theory and Modelling, and exploring the factors which account for the efficacy strength levels of individuals.

Another area of interest is in the use of quantitative techniques in data analysis. In particular, the use of Predictive Analytics, Machine Learning Theory and Open Source applications to explore patterns, trends and latent relationships contained within data.  Specifically, the application of Segmentation, Regression and Classification techniques typify this interest and the potential it bring to supporting and optimising management decisions.
