Here at Shannon College of Hotel Management there are a wide variety of clubs and societies you can take part in. Every Wednesday we have a sports evening where we all meet up with a coach for some fresh air and for a bit of fun! This year we have both a men’s and lady’s Gaelic Football Team where we get to meet outside the boundaries of the college and get to know one another a little better. Sport and keeping fit is such an important element when we move away to college and so taking part in this really allows us to disconnect from our studies. Not only do we focus on GAA, this year the college offered tennis, basketball, rounders, tag rugby, Muay Thai, circuit training and so much more. It’s a really nice way to get to know everyone’s skills and areas of interest without the hospitality and business element. Continuing with my sports allowed me to join the Luxembourg Ladies Camogie and Gaelic Football Teams while I was on my placement. With these teams I also got the chance to travel all over Europe to compete in competitions which has to have been one of the highlights of my placement.

There are so many opportunities to get involved in clubs and societies both on and off campus. Sport is such a huge aspect to college life and students have the ability to start up new clubs depending on their interests.

Shannon College has many clubs and societies. It’s a great way of getting to meet people in the other years. Being students of The University of Galway allows us to have full access to the facilities, clubs and societies provided on the main campus in Galway. There is so much to do outside of academic studies so you are never bored!
