Charities & Volunteering
Shannon College has a long established charity committee which holds various fundraising events throughout the year. Volunteering is a big part of life at Shannon College and to reward all the time and effort that students put into societies, sports clubs, campaigns, committees, mentoring, Class Reps and all other activities that are not degree-related, Dr. Philip Smyth, recently retired Head of College with Professor Ciarán Ó hÓgartaigh, President of University of Galway are delighted to reward and celebrate Shannon College students with a jointly accredited Award of Volunteering; the ALIVE Certificate.
The ALIVE (A Learning Initiative and Volunteering Experience) Certificate is awarded to successful applicants in recognition of their voluntary contribution to community, on and off campus. Shannon College students complete a reflective record of their volunteering experience at the end of the academic year to qualify for an ALIVE Certificate.

Every year a committee is elected to help fundraise through various self-run events such as quiz nights, lotteries, bingo, music events and more, with all donations going to a chosen local charity.
