Inaugural Irish Rural Studies Symposium (IRSS)
The Inaugural Irish Rural Studies Symposium (IRSS) was hosted at Teagasc' Mellows Campus, Athenry, Co. Galway on September 1, 2009.
Forty papers covering a variety of areas ranging from innovation and diversification of the rural economy to topics considering rural society and culture were presented by researchers and post-graduate students from Irish and international universities and research institutes.

Gender, Globalisation and Empowerment Research Cluster chaired sessions and/or presented papers at the Symposium on society and culture, gender perspectives of rural identity and gender and rural governance.
