First announcement and call for papers
The Gender and Child Welfare Network, which is an international group of researchers and practitioners, is pleased to announce that its fourth conference is being held for the first time in Ireland on 15 June, 2011 in conjunction with the Child and Family Research Centre and the Masters in Social Work Programme at NUIG.
The network has organized three successful conferences previously on the relationship between gender and child welfare. This conference will focus specifically on the relationship between gender, child protection and family support and explore the following questions:

Call for papers
Presentations are invited on any area of theory, research or practice which relates to the themes of the conference. Presentations can be from researchers or practitioners in a range of academic and practice disciplines, including sociology, psychology, social policy, social work, socio-legal studies, education and nursing. Please send a title and abstract of no more than 200 words to the conference organiser, Brid Featherstone (

This event on the 15 June has been organised especially to link with the highly successful bi-annual international conference on family support held at NUI, Galway by the Child and Family Research Centre. This conference will be held on 16 and 17 June and it is hoped that delegates might take advantage of the opportunity to stay on in Galway and avail of both conferences. More details on this will be made available in due course.
