Dr. Ronan Long of the Centre for Marine and Natural Resource Law and Policy, NUI Galway has become the first recipient of the prestigious Manahan Fellowship of €100,000 awarded by the Marine Institute. The Manahan Fellowship was established in memory of the late Michael Manahan (who played a pioneering role in all aspects of marine science and technology over three decades), supports original research in Marine Science Policy, Socio-Economics and Law of the Sea.
Dr Long is co-author of the book "Enforcing the Common Fisheries Policy" and, from 1993 to 2000 worked in the Fisheries Directorate of the European Commission. He has also served as Naval Officer in the Irish Naval Service. The Manahan Fellowship will support Dr Long over two years to prepare a reference book on the law and policy relating to the utilisation and management of marine resources in Ireland. Click
