The National University of Ireland, Galway (NUI Galway), one of Ireland’s most prestigious universities, is proud to welcome applications from students from Brazil under the auspices of its government’s Science Without Borders / Ciência Sem Fronteiras programme.

How to Apply
In order to apply for a PhD at NUI Galway, you will first need to discuss a research proposal with your potential supervisor at NUI Galway.

Applicant emails the named supervisor of their chosen project(s) to discuss a research proposal, enclosing the following:

Applicant Review |
Applicant’s details are reviewed by the potential PhD supervisor at NUI Galway. The supervisor may ask the applicant to write a short proposal or research document, to discuss the research by phone, or to undergo some similar review process. |

Decision |
If the supervisor agrees to accept the applicant as a PhD student, then the supervisor will guide the applicant in making a formal application to the university. (This will include a requirement to submit evidence of English-language competency) |

Letter of Offer |
NUI Galway issues a Letter of Offer to the applicant as per the requirements of the Ciência Sem Fronteiras programme. |

Funding Application |
Applicant proceeds to apply for funding from the Ciência Sem Fronteiras programme. |

Study Abroad at NUI Galway
Our popular Study Abroad Programme offers students enrolled at a recognised overseas university or college the opportunity to spend a semester or a year at NUI Galway.
As a Visiting student, you can tailor your selection of classes from across our wide range of disciplines, to meet your individual academic requirements. While attending NUI Galway as a visiting student, you can earn credits towards your degree back home.
Entry Requirements for Visiting Students - Brazil
We welcome applications from students currently enrolled at Brazilian universities, who wish to spend a semester or year at NUI Galway as a visiting student.
Students are normally required to have completed a least two years of their degree, with an average of 70% (Distinguido) or greater prior to enrolling at NUI Galway.
In addition, students must meet the university's normal English language requirements:
- IELTS 6.0 for Science and Engineering
- IELTS 6.5 for Arts, Business and Law
