Made me feel someone actually cared what was going on in my life - that my concerns mattered.
Secretary very friendly and approachable and easy to talk to.
I was surprised that so many other issues about myself opened up after I started counselling.
I have learned to trust again. I had so many knocking me back and counselling picked me right up again.
Every time I called to your office I was in bits. I got a lovely warm reception and all the help I needed.
Nice to know it (counselling service) was there when I needed it.
The counselling helped a lot in improving my quality of life.
I don't think I would have completed college if I had not been able to access this service.
I was surprised how open I could be without feeling judged.
I found the counselling extremely useful in getting my head sorted and getting the ball rolling.
It was good to get worries off my chest.
I was able to cope with my studies, but I had more confidence to ask for help if I needed it.

Annual Survey 2008 - comments made by students:
I think its profile has improved a lot in the last while and it now has an obvious presence on campus – its premises are attractive and centrally located.
I believe the student support provided by the Counselling Service is absolutely necessary. In my limited dealings with the service, I found that the students definitely benefitted.
I think your office is doing a great job and should be funded to employ more counsellors.
I think the Student Counselling Service is absolutely necessary for students. They are at a very vulnerable stage between peer pressure, living away from home for the first time, managing their money, lack of self esteem and fear of being judged by their fellow students because of how they look, how they dress and their ability in class (good or bad).
I think they are a very professional support body and hopefully have reached the majority of students within NUIG who have real life problems.
It is a professional, efficient, essential service for the modern university.
An excellent service for students. I would like to see the drop in service expanded. I know that students are sometimes put off by the fact that they have to go on a waiting list.
An excellent service. Only comment is in relation to students with ongoing serious problems – the service is not resourced to support these students indefinitely but without such support they may well not be able to complete their studies.
Counselling Service is providing an excellent service and proof is in the number of students whom they have assisted in overcoming their personal problems and who through the services intervention have successfully completed their courses.
