As you begin your university life at NUI Galway, you can be confident that you are joining a dynamic and forward thinking University, with a distinguished reputation for teaching and research excellence. Throughout your time with us here you will be challenged and inspired to achieve your full potential.
We are very proud of our reputation as a student-centred university. Our staff are friendly and approachable and you will be taught by lecturers who are experts in their field, bringing the latest concepts and discoveries to the classroom. You will be in the company of many bright and creative minds from every discipline. The wide range of support services available will enhance the quality of your learning, from admission to graduation and will help to maximise your engagement with the academic life in the University.
NUI Galway has outstanding facilities and unparalleled programme offerings. We can offer you opportunities to: gain industry experience through work placements, study abroad, or become a volunteer with our student volunteering programme, all of which will help you get the most out of your time with us.
Our newly built Sports Centre provides superb facilities including an arena for court sports, a swimming pool, and a state-of-the-art gym. We also have over 40 sports clubs and more than 80 societies to choose from. We have excellent student health, welfare and counselling, accommodation and academic support services, all of which are listed within this handbook. Our library and computer services are well-resourced and utilise the latest technology.
Our location, on the periphery of Galway City, a city renowned for its student vibrancy, is unparalleled in Ireland. In Galway City, students can enjoy the best of both worlds – the excitement of a modern city as well as the beautiful and unspoilt landscapes of the West of Ireland.
We hope that you will take full advantage of all the student services listed within this guide. We are committed to providing you with a holistic educational experience and to making your time with us enjoyable and fulfilling, both educationally and personally.
We look forward to welcoming you to NUI Galway. Our Student Orientation process, which is compulsory, will provide you with an opportunity to get to know our campus and to meet with your Student Connect Mentor who will advise and support you in the transition to university life.
Vice President for the Student Experience.
