10 tips for success at nui galway
1. Be smart about your study habits
At the start of each semester, mark down timetables, deadlines etc. in your diary.
2. Find your niche
It’s easy to feel alone on this campus unless you find a home in one of the smaller communities. Join a society, club or
volunteer with ALIVE.
3. Get your Zzzz-s
Get 6-8 hours sleep (at least most nights!) you’ll be better able to concentrate and stay healthy.
4. Eat!
This is easy to forget when things get hectic. Eat breakfast (even if it’s on the go) and eat something nutritious
every 3 hours.
5. Physical activity is a must
Exercise has many physical benefits, plus it’s a great stress reliever.
6. Strike a balance
A balanced week includes time for study, family, friends, work, exercise, extracurricular activity, and quiet time.
7. Say “yes” to fun
When you’re happy and relaxed, you can think and learn more quickly.
8. Resilience is key
Learning how to lift your own spirits to overcome obstacles is so important and can be as simple as phoning a friend.
9. It’s okay to ask for help
Sometimes we need extra help and support. NUIG staff are always available. Just ask.
10. Get involved
You can touch lives in big and small ways: study with a classmate, write a letter to the editor of SIN, or volunteer with ALIVE.
