Welcome to the Student Health Unit, NUI, Galway 

The Student Health Service provides on-campus medical and psychaitric care to registered students of the university in a professional, courteous and confidential manner.

Location:

The Student Health Unit is located in Aras na Macleinn, upstairs beside Students Union.                                 

You can call to arrange an appointment with the Student Health Unit on 091 - 492604. There are services for which we charge see http://www.nuigalway.ie/health_unit/fees.html

Emergencies:   

If you are acutely ill on the day, your problem may initially be assessed by a nurse and if necessary seen by the doctor as soon as is possible.  For appointments outside opening hours, in the evenings or at weekends please see our out of hours arrangements at Emergency Doctor: http://www.nuigalway.ie/health_unit/emergencydoctor.html

Confidentiality:

Absolute confidentiality is maintained.  All medical records are retained in the health centre and do not form part of the University student records.  Information is only given to third parties with the patients consent.

Student Health Services - Summer Service:

During the summer months a reduced service is available.  Summer service is intended for students whose courses are ongoing over the summer e.g. postgraduates, Phd and Masters students or special cases by prior arrangement - other students should see their own GP.      

Pre-existing Medical Condition                                              

If you are coming to college for the first time and have a pre-existing medical condition, please ensure that you bring all your relevant medical documentation from home with you.  It maybe a good idea for you to register with the Student Health Unit on your arrival in college so that we are aware of your condition. 

If you are a overseas student from the coming on erasmus and have a pre-existing medical condition, it maybe helpful for you to contact us prior to your arrival by email healthunitnuigalway.ie to ensure that all your medical needs can be met as some overseas medications are not licenced for use here in Ireland.
