NUI Galway Climate Change Solidarity

Our NUI Galway sustainability vision is to establish the campus as a leading green, smart and healthy campus. We were recently awarded the internationally recognised Green Flag by An Taisce, recognising our efforts to promote best practise in sustainability across the campus. While we are pleased with our progress to date, we realise that the climate change issue is very grave and that we have a lot more to do.

Over the last year young climate activists from across Ireland have held protests over a lack of government action on climate change. This is in solidarity with Greta Thunberg and other school climate strikers from across the globe as part of the Friday for Future Ireland Movement.   On Friday 20th September, 2019 a Global day of protest took place led by school strikers calling for urgent action on Climate Change. NUI Galway students and staff stood in solidarity with our school students as part of the global day of protest. We convened in College Pak in front of the Quad at 11am Friday 20th September and dropped the Green Flag to half-mast as a symbolic gesture to demonstrate our solidarity to our school students
