Translating Design into Application
Dr. Maria Tuohy
, Dept. of Biochemistry
Dr. Maria Tuohy’s group, the Molecular Glycobiotechnology Group (MGBG), has developed a strong track record in Glycobiotechnology and Enzyme Biotechnology. Ongoing research themes in my group include:
(1)
Production, structure-function, molecular genetics and regulation of novel thermostable enzymes/enzyme systems from ’Generally regarded as safe’(GRAS) fungal sources, especially carbohydrate-modifying hydrolases, esterases and oxidases (Enzyme biodiscovery)
(2)
Exploitation and optimization the thermophilic fungus
Talaromyces emersonii
as a ’cell factory’ for biotechnological applications
(3)
Structurefunction analysis, enzymatic modification and mechanism of action of bioactive carbohydrates from marine and terrestrial sources (’Glycobioengineering’).
