Financial Problems
Financial problems may cause you to consider leaving NUI, Galway before course completion. There may be some options before taking this step.

Bank/Credit Union Loan
The national banks situated on or adjacent to the University campus employ full-time student officers who have considerable experience in dealing with the vagaries of student financial affairs. They may well be able to give assistance and advice.

Financial Aid Fund
The University operates a Financial Aid Fund for students. This fund incorporates the Student Assistance Fund. The fund provides assistance towards living expenses, childcare and fees. Where students are applying for assistance with fees, you may apply for a fee abatement (e.g. 10%, 20%, etc) or apply to pay your fee in more than 2 installments or, indeed, a combination of fee abatement and payment by installment. Third-Level Grant
Information on your entitlement to the Third Level Grant is available from your home
Local Authority. Each Authority has a Third Level Grant Section. More information on supports for third level students is available

Student Hardship Fund
Contact the
Chaplains. The Chaplains have access to a small fund which is maintained to assist students who have short-term financial difficulties or who experience a sudden emergency or crisis and need immediate financial aid. Amounts available from this Hardship Fund are limited and are usually given in the form of a short-term interest-free loan. However, in appropriate circumstances, money can be provided quickly.

Fees
If the inability to pay tuition fees to NUI, Galway is causing you to consider leaving University before course completion, you should, as a matter of urgency, contact the Fees Office and arrange to meet a member of the Fees Office staff in person.
Here, your various options will be outlined, including in exceptional circumstances, an abatement of some of the amount owed. This may require you making a formal application to the University through Financial Aid Fund. Please click
