Research interests:

Foreign investment in Ireland; multinational R&D in China and China’s innovation policy

Having graduated from University College Dublin, the University of Ulster and the University of New South Wales (where he completed his PhD), he returned to NUI, Galway in 1980, where he taught in the Geography Department until retiring in 2012. Among the journals where his work has been published are Regional Studies, Environment and Planning A, Geoforum, European Planning Studies and Entrepreneurship and Regional Development.
