The participating regions believe that a sustainable socio-economic
development in their regions towards becoming regions of excellence can
be achieved more easily through the establishment and strengthening of
co-operation links among regions.
Moreover, science, technology and innovation are considered as key
aspects for the socio-economic development and social cohesion of the
regions, especially in the knowledge-based economy and society. The
overall objective of the REGINA project is for regions of the Atlantic
Area to establish the basis to become regions of excellence (proven
efficiency for competitiveness, economic growth, sustainable
development and social cohesion) through the implementation of a common
methodology for Regional scientific, Technological and Innovation
Knowledge Management.
This objective makes a contribution towards the two strategic objectives of Interreg IIIB Atlantic Area, namely:
Improvement in the integration of regional development policies, and
implementation via an increase in the number of joint strategies
targeted on the promotion of the specific assets of this area.
Development of a culture of trans-national and inter-regional
co-operation, via an increase in the number of partnerships and
collaboration procedures: networking of territories and Atlantic actors.
