Biography

I studied economics at the University of Bonn and completed my doctorate at the University of Cologne. I was fortunate to receive a scholarship from the International Max Planck Research School. In 2012/2013, I embarked on a research journey at the University of California, San Diego. Following that, I spent two enriching years (2013-2015) as a research assistant at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Then, in 2016, I embraced the role of a junior professor at the Mercator School of Management at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Recently, in March 2024, I transitioned to the J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics as a Lecturer above the Bar.My research endeavors revolve around probing into behavioral economics and management. Specifically, I delve into unraveling the intricate decisions of individuals influenced by social preferences. Throughout my studies, I've found that factors such as fairness, aversion to inequity and lies, the aspiration for collaborative efforts, and other non-monetary utility considerations significantly shape decision-making processes. My research methods encompass a blend of field, laboratory, and online experiments. Over the years, my focus has expanded to encompass management issues, such as the exploration of women's representation in leadership roles.Furthermore, I bring a wealth of teaching experience across various academic levels¿be it Bachelor, Master, or PhD programs. I've taught an array of subjects spanning econometrics, behavioral economics, and strategic management.

Research Interests

I deal with research questions in the field of behavioral economics with a special focus on questions in the field of management, such as women in leadership positions. More specifically, I study decisions made by individuals and groups that cannot be explained by pure income maximization. A large part of the decisions I study are directly or indirectly relevant to the role of agents in society as well as in firms. Preferences I study include (dis)honesty and gender, generosity and fairness, competitive behavior and goals, and cooperativeness, and I pay particular attention to social contexts such as the role of gender, origin, or sexuality of agents. My methods include field, laboratory, and online experiments as well as incentivized and non-incentivized surveys. I have interdisciplinary and international co-authorships with economists and lawyers from Germany, Denmark, Norway, Austria, Switzerland and the USA. Furthermore, I have worked with experts in different organizations and companies in the past and will continue to do so in the future.
