Information for Incoming BA Students (Joint-honours), Archaeology 2016/17

First Year BA students at Poulnabrone Portal Tomb in the Burren of Co. Clare. 
  • The 1st year BA Archaeology handbook 2017-18 contains a summary of the first year Archaeology course and the reading that is recommended for each module.
  • There is a notice board in the Discipline corridor, near the Secretary’s office for announcements on courses and fieldtrips.  We are ready to help you out and glad to meet you so call to see us with any questions you may have.
  • An academic member of staff, Dr. Carleton Jones, will deal with your general queries and queries relating to seminars that you may have during Semester 1.  Dr. Kieran O’Conor, is the person to contact in Semester 2. 
  • You can contact the secretary in Archaeology, Mrs. Sandra Getty, between 9.15 am and 12.30 pm or between 2.15 pm and 4 pm, in room ARC217 or by phone (extension 2167) and email: sandra.getty@nuigalway.ie or archaeology@nuigalway.ie. 

Visting Students

  • The lecture-based modules in first-year archaeology (AR113 and AR115) are open to Visiting Students (please consult the Visiting Students Archaeology Handbook 2017-2018‌ for details)
  • AR1100 (10 ECTs) and AR1101 (5 ECTs) extend over two semesters and therefore accreditation for these module are only available to overseas students who are here for the full academic year. Prior to registering for either of these options please discuss your choice with our Visiting Student Liaison Officer Dr Carleton Jones.

Visiting students should firstly confirm that their home institution permits students to take first-year modules. Further details for modules open to Visiting Students in semester one are in the Visiting Student Archaeology Handbook.
