International Study Trip
International Leadership Gateway: Fordham
Organisations now operate in a global environment and it is important to understand different perspectives and experiences in an international context. Combining tuition and experiential learning in a global business context the International Leadership Gateway Experience is an intensive tailored programme currently delivered in collaboration with our academic partner Fordham University, NY. The experience gives students the opportunity to visit businesses, attend lectures, and interact with business leaders in an international context. The programme pivots around your personal leadership development

A group of Executive MBA students had the opportunity to complete a week-long International Leadership Gateway programme at Fordham University in New York City in June 2015.
The students were exposed to the most up-to-date current and modern academic thinking and practice through a series of seminars and lectures such as “Value Investing: From Ben Graham to Warren Buffet”, James Kelly; “Finance & Global Sustainability”, Frank Werner; “Mobilizing Change Through Executive Leadership”, Bill Catucci; “Stories from Wall Street”, John Tognino. There were many innovative methods for programme delivery which saw students learn “Teamwork through Jazz” at the world famous Lincoln Centre.
Following the famous 1960’s movie, Breakfast at Tiffany’s was another key event during the NUI Galway MBA international study trip to NYC 2015. The students were briefed by the Chief Financial Officer at its headquarters at 200 5th Avenue in Manhattan. The group learned about the importance of brand in the luxury market. The CFO reflected on the history of Tiffany & Co since its inception in 1837 and discussed the importance of corporate social responsibility, image and brand as Tiffany & Co further expands its global footprint.
Another highlight was an interactive panel organised and sponsored by the Galway University Foundation entitled “Career Reflections: Looking Back, Looking Forward”. The event provided students with insights from guest speakers who have achieved significant international career success. All of the speakers, many of whom are NUI Galway graduates, advised on how to craft successful careers drawing from their own varied and diverse experiences. The panel reflected on the challenges ahead for executives and business leaders. The event was hosted at the exclusive New York Athletic Club on Central Park. “It was an immense privilege to be in the presence of such esteemed business leaders at this event, and to have them share their stories of leadership with us. Each speaker was of an extremely high calibre and brought their own vast wisdom and experience to the table. Overall it was an inspirational event and provided great insight as well as practical advice.”, said Elisha Daniels, Executive MBA 2014-16.
