Health Sciences—Social Care (MPhil)

The Discipline of Health Promotion offers an MPhil in Social Care part-time over 2 years or 1 year full-time.
The MPhil programme offers qualified, experienced social care workers the opportunity to extend and enhance the depth and breadth of their knowledge within a framework of academic rigour. Application is open to those with a BA degree in Social Care, Level 8, grade 2.1 or over. Application is competitive and the number of places offered is limited. As places are limited, being eligible does not guarantee a place on the programme.

Programme aim
The aim of the MPhil (Health Sciences - Social Care) is to prepare graduates to develop, improve and enhance knowledge, skills and understanding in their chosen area of research.

Programme Delivery
Students on the MPhil programme will be required to conduct a piece of independent and original research, normally comprising the design of an empirical study and the collection, analysis and interpretation of data under the supervision of a member of academic staff of the Discipline of Health Promotion. Students will be supported by a named academic supervisor for the duration of the programme.
Prior to formal application it is recommended that students make direct contact with potential supervisors in the Discipline to discuss their plans and to work on their research proposals. A full CV and proposal will be requested and considered prior to acceptance onto a research degree programme.
