"I come from Jakarta. I had no idea what NUIG was, so I was a bit skeptical about this university. A little bit of research on internet, I figure it out that NUIG is a quick rising universities in many rankings especially on biomedical sciences and related subjects. I can see their ambition to become a well-developed research university in Ireland. I also found that many advance medical technology companies are based in Galway and collaborate with NUIG. When I arrive in Galway, I found actually NUIG is also among the top universities in Ireland on Computer, Social Studies, and Literature. I am surprised.
Coming from Indonesia, I found a small community of Indonesians here in Galway. But that's enough to maintain your "kangen" feeling. Furthermore, the malaysian and asian communities here are very strong but open to us as well to join their gathering events.
As a muslim I was a bit concern on the halal food and prayer rooms. My first week on galway, I found the people from Islamic Society at NUIG are very helpful for me to show me where the halal shop and where I can offer my prayer. Overall, Galway is a big tourist destination and also full of international students, therefore we can also learn and understand the multicultural environment as another dimension of our learning experiences. As for the Irish people either the academics and the people around the university, they are very talk active and friendly, I feel like I was in "Yogya" when I have chats to many of them. Overall from 1-10, I will say that NUIG score 8 as a place to study for Indonesians."
