Biography

Dr. Marie Tierney is a chartered physiotherapist, receiving her BSc. (Physio) from the University of Limerick in 2009. She graduated in 2013 with her PhD from the Dept. of Clinical Therapies at the University of Limerick. In this research she focused on the measurement of physical activity and its impact on inflammation related cardiovascular disease in rheumatoid arthritis. She moved to take up a position as a post-doctoral researcher at the Discipline of General Practice at the National University of Ireland, Galway, on this Health Research Board funded project examining screening, follow-up and community lifestyle intervention programme in women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus. She is now working as a project manager on a project assessing the use of values based digital technology to enhance and evaluate inter-professional education at the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Marie has worked as a physiotherapist in both the private and community settings and was previously involved as a coordinator in the development of a new service delivery model for physically disabled institutionalised individuals.
