We are delighted to announce the launch of our India specific Scholarship Schemes for 2016/2017.
Last year, NUI Galway awarded students from India a diverse range of scholarships. Given the high calibre of applications received we are now extending our scholarship offerings. We look forward to welcoming students from all over India to our friendly and historic Galway campus.

1. Sir Peter Freyer Special Merit Scholarship (Value: €13,750) in the area of Science, Bioinnovation, and ICT
Peter Freyer graduated from Galway with a degree in Medicine in 1874. He went on to become civil surgeon with the Indian Medical Service, first at Azamgargh in Uttar Pradesh, and later at Moradabad near Delhi. He served with the Indian Medical Service for 20 years and published much of his research in the Indian Medical Journal. He was a famous pioneer in biomedical innovation, and is credited for developing the operation now known as prostatectomy.
Two Freyer Scholarships, comprising a full fee waiver (value: €13,750), are available. These scholarships are aimed at academic programmes in science, bioinnovation, and ICT. Applications for the scholarship are welcomed from Indian students seeking to enter one of the selected taught Master’s programmes at NUI Galway commencing September 2017.
2. Max Arthur Macauliffe Special Merit Scholarship (Valued: €13,750 - €13,250) aimed at programmes in all areas of the NUI Galway curriculum
Max Arthur Macauliffe graduated from Galway with a degree in languages, classics, and history in 1863. He entered the Indian Civil Service in 1862, and went on to hold several senior positions before retiring in 1893. He was a prolific scholar and became immersed in Indian culture, and before long converted to Sikhism. He is renowned for translating Sikh scripture and history into English, for publishing an extensive history of the Sikh religion, and for promoting international awareness of and interest in Punjabi culture in the late 19th century.
Three Macauliffe Scholarships, comprising a full fee waiver (value: €13,750 - €13,250), are available. These scholarships are aimed at academic programmes in all areas of the NUI Galway curriculum. Applications for the scholarship are welcomed from Indian students seeking to enter one of the selected taught Master’s programmes at NUI Galway commencing September 2017.
3. Postgraduate Merit Scholarship (Value: €2,000 to €2,750)
Postgraduate Merit Scholarships, comprising a partial fee waiver (value: €2,000 to €2,750), are available. These scholarships are aimed at postgraduate programmes in all areas of the NUI Galway curriculum, commencing September 2017.
4. Undergraduate Merit Scholarship (Value: €2,000 to €2,750)
Undergraduate Merit Scholarships, comprising a partial fee waiver (value: €2,000 to €2,750), are available. These scholarships are aimed at undergraduate programmes in all areas of the NUI Galway curriculum commencing September 2017 (excluding undergraduate medicine).
Applications for Postgraduate and Undergraduate Merit Scholarships are welcome from Indian students seeking to enter one of the relevant programmes at NUI Galway, commencing September 2017.

Scholarship applicants are assessed based on academic merit. In addition, applicants will submit a personal statement (MS Word, 2,000 words maximum) covering the following points:

The applicant’s interest in studying in Ireland

How the applicant foresees their relationship with Ireland developing in the future

How the applicant will promote links with Ireland, both during their scholarship tenure and as alumni.

Application for Admission to NUI Galway
|
Applicant applies for admission to one or more eligible programmes (listed above) via www.pac.ie. You must be accepted onto a Taught Masters Programme in order to apply for a Scholarship.

Scholarship Application
|
Applicant submits a Personal Statement to the International Affairs Office, NUI Galway. You must ensure to include the title of the scholarship scheme your are applying for in the subject of your e-mail and also your PAC application number (for example - Government of Ireland Scholarship, PAC application no. 17000000). You should submit your scholarship application to internationaladmissions@nuigalway.ie
You should receive an e-mail confirming receipt of your Scholarship application - if you have not had a response within 5 working days please let us know.

Scholarship Award Notification
|
Successful scholarship applicants are notified by e-mail and should confirm to internationaladmissions@nuigalway.ie if they will be accepting their award. They must also accept their place on PAC via payment of a deposit amount.

Once you have received your offer you should then indicate you interest in applying for the Postgraduate Merit Scholarship by e-mailing international@nuigalway.ie.

Undergraduate Merit Scholarships
Eligibility and How to Apply
Competition opens in April 2017 and you must be in receipt of an offer from NUI Galway to apply .
Undergraduate Applications are submitted to the International Office and the letter of acceptance is issued by the International Office.
Once you have received your offer you should then indicate you interest in applying for the Undergraduate Merit Scholarship by e-mailing international@nuigalway.ie.
Scholarships applicants are assessed based on academic merit.
Terms and Conditions
If you are successful in securing your scholarship; you must confirm you are accepting the award via e-mail and also accepted your offer on PAC via payment of a deposit amount. Once the period of time has elapsed the scholarship will be re-allocated.
- Applicants must be categorised as non-EU for tuition fee purposes.
- Applicants should be Indian Citizens and residing in India at the time of application.
- Applicants must hold an offer from NUI Galway.
- Successful candidates will be selected on merit.
- These scholarships are not eligible to be combined with any other tuition scholarship.
