Biography

Beth Mallard received a BSC in Physiology in 2002 from the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. Following her undergraduate degree, she worked as a Research Assistant at Kings' College London/Guy's Hospital. She returned to New Zealand and was awarded a PhD from the University of Otago in 2011, studying "The role of Toll-like receptor 4 in Concanavalin A-induced immune-mediated hepatitis". She worked as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Otago for 2010-2011. She was appointed as a  Lecturer in Physiology in 2012.
Her current research interests include:
  • interaction between the gut and the liver
  • changes in gut permeability in acute and chronic liver injuries
  • examination of the microcirculation using intravital microscopy
  • the role of stress in acute and chronic liver injuries
