Biography

Ms Claire Quinn, RGN, MSc, BNS (hons), PGD Palliative Care, ONC.
Claire Quinn was appointed Lecturer (fixed term) to the School of Nursing and Midwifery, National University of Ireland, Galway in 2016.  Claire has been involved with the School of Nursing since 2011 and was appointed Honorary Senior Lecturer in 2015. Claire is Programme Director for the MHSc Children's Palliative/Complex Care and the MHSc Public Health Nurse Registration Programme.
Claire has a extensive clinical and executive management experience in general and community nursing in the UK, Canada and Ireland and has held positions as Clinical Nurse Specialist within two specialities. She has been involved in Nurse Education since 1997 undertaking Clinical Education modules and is currently undertaking her PhD.
Claire has been at the forefront of developments around children's palliative care since her work within paediatric disability/oncology and community care and has been an active participant/advocate in the development of children's palliative care as an emerging speciality. Claire was a Ministerial appointment as contributor to the National Policy for Children's Palliative Care (DoHC 2010) and participates on the National Development Committee (Chaired by the HSE) charged with overseeing policy implementation. 
Claire lectures at undergraduate and post-graduate level on nursing practice, community nursing and paediatric palliative care. She is supervisor and examiner for the MHSc research programmes and has led and participated on several national children's palliative care research studies to date.  This work is supported through a commitment to evidence based practice and dissemination as evidenced as Co-Chair/Organiser of the International Paediatric Palliative Care Conferences held in Ireland two yearly.
Claire led on the design and implementation of Ireland's first Children's Palliative and Complex Care MHSc for nurses working in Hospital and Community settings established by NUI Galway. This new programme has already been nominated by Gradireland for two prominent awards.
