Biography

<< A vocationally trained General Practitioner, Dr Rosemary Geoghegan is a Lecturer in Paediatrics in the School of Medicine, NUI Galway.  As a GP  with a special interest in Paediatric Diabetes, Dr Geoghegan additionally is medical doctor on the Paediatric Diabetes Team in University Hospital Galway.
She is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education, notably in clinical teaching, assessment, development and evolution of the Undergraduate Medical Programme, NUI Galway. As College Vice Dean for Teaching, Learning and Assessment she leads the Teaching, Learning and Assessment unit, in collaboration with central university, developing and delivering the National, University and College Strategic Plan for Teaching, Learning and Assessment .
She has a special interest in development of sustainable educational practices in medical education. Projects she has worked on include role out of blended learning tools in undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare education, in addition to inter-professional learning projects. In her role creating and supporting a positive learning environment for medical students she has worked as academy academic liaison officer.  Championing medical education faculty development she chairs the School of Medicine educational symposium, MEITHEAL. She leads the Paediatric lecturer team.
She is a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners, the Association for Medical Education in Europe, and Medical Council Register of Medical Specialists (General Practice).  
 

Research Interests

Rosemary's primary research interest is in the field of medical education, in particular in the area of learning in the clinical environment and clinical assessment. The focus of her recent Masters' in Medical Education was on perceptions of stakeholders on shared clinical learning placements.  She supervises research theses on both the NUI Galway Masters in Clinical Education and the Masters in Preventive Cardiology programmes.  Rosemary, in collaboration with the Adult Diabetes Research Team, Galway University Hospital, has also published in the area of Paediatric Diabetes.
