The J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics at NUI Galway recently hosted the 6th Executive MBA Masterclass entitled “Customer Service as the Heart of Business”.  A panel of speakers shared their insights and personal experience of customer service, people and leadership in a discussion chaired by Dr Ann Torres.  The panel discussed the critical role employees play in customer service delivery and that good leadership at all levels lies at the heart of successful organisations and effective customer service.  Myles McHugh gave insights from his experience in a large semi-state organisation, Irish Rail while Oisin Browne gave insights on social media from the perspective of a fast-growing SME in the services sector with impressive internationalisation plans.  Barry Walsh has worked for large MNCs and now provides specialised consulting advice and services to the SME sector.  The chair, Dr Ann Torres, said “it was wonderful to learn from a panel of experienced practitioners about the role and importance of customer service as the heart of business and the importance of the human factor in delivering customer service excellence
