Reflections on the Legal Legacy of the 1916 Rising & Declaration of Independence

April 9-10, 2016

As part of NUI Galway’s commemorative programme for the centenary of the 1916 Rising, the School of Law will host a conference to consider the legacy of Irish independence and sovereignty in the domain of law and of legal thought.

In particular, the conference will address:

  • The distinctive character of the legal order that developed post-independence.
  • The impact of revolutionary ideals in the Irish legal and constitutional system.
  • Constitutional experimentation and evolution in independent Ireland
  • Concepts of nationalism and popular sovereignty and their impact in the domain of social and penal policy.

Sunday April 10, 10.45am

Venue: Aula Maxima, Main Quadrangle, NUI Galway

 The conference is open to the public, but please register with M.PORTUONDO1@nuigalway.ie.
