Contributing to a shadow report for Ireland

CDLP will hold a meeting on Tuesday 10th of December.

 

The purpose of the meeting will be to facilitate civil society groups and individuals to meet and discuss the possibility of contributing to a shadow report.

It is with huge regret that the Centre for Disability, Law and Policy (CDLP) must inform you that the Disability Winter School has been postponed until further notice while we secure funding to make the event more accessible to everyone.

CDLP had hoped through this event to facilitate civil society groups to meet and discuss the possibility of contributing to a shadow report. With this in mind we would like to invite organisations and individuals to an open meeting in room G006, Institute for Lifecourse and Society (ILAS), North Campus, NUI Galway on Tuesday 10th December 2019.

Online registration is open for this comprehensive training programme on the Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act 2015.  The training will consist of 3 blocks and will run over the course of 5 days from Monday 21th September to Friday 25th September 2020.

  • Block 1: Understanding the Act and developing good practice (Day 1)
  • Block 2: Applying the Act to Professional Practice (Day 2)
  • Block 3: Applying the Act to Different Groups (Day 3, 4 & 5)

All participants are required to complete Block 1
Block 2 and 3 are optional

  • Block 1: 'Understanding the Act and developing good practice' to get a thorough grounding of the Act’s key concepts and challenges.
  • Block 2: (AM) 'Applying the Act to Professional Practice' aims to give health and social care professionals the skills to implement the Act in their  field.
  • Block 2: (PM) 'ADM and the Deprivation of Liberty'
  • Block 3: 'Applying the Act to Different Groups' consists of 3 separate days, one day each devoted to the areas of intellectual disability, mental health and older people.  

This training is primarily designed for those working with and supporting people affected by the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act, including professionals working with people with disabilities, older people and people with mental health experience. The training has been designed to focus on practical challenges in implementing the Act, and examples of promising practice from other countries which might guide Ireland’s implementation are drawn from the Centre’s vast international network and experience. The Centre’s involvement in the development of the legislation also informs this training, and co-trainers from peer organisations of people with experience of the mental health services (Recovery Experts by Experience), self-advocates with intellectual disabilities (National Platform of Self Advocates) and people living with dementia (Irish Dementia Working Group), will facilitate the various training sessions.
