Galway City Mayors Awards for Volunteering

Annually students and staff are nominated to the local Galway City Mayors Awards in recognition of their volunteering efforts. 2021 celebrated students Kirsty Moran, Hannah Aris, Jason Sherlock, Best Buddies Society, and the team of students across campus engaged in the Galway Simon Community fundraising initiative. Staff and students engaged in the National Park City for Galway were also honoured. Students and Staff nominated receive a special mention in the online ceremony and a certificate signed by the Mayor of Galway City.

Volunteer Ireland, National Volunteering Award

Annually students are nominated for the national award for volunteering coordinated by Volunteer Ireland. The Ireland Involved Awards are an important opportunity to acknowledge students commitment to a wide range of community projects.  On the International Day of Volunteering 5th December 2015 NUI Galway student Barry Foley was selected as the overall category winner for his volunteering with Galway’s Ability West.

Gaisce, National President’s Medal

Hundreds of NUI Galway students have achieved the Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals in participating in the Gaisce Presidents Award, undertaking a civic commitment to community volunteering, personal development and teamwork.

Global Citizens Award and EIL Cultural Engagement Travel Awards

Annually NUI Galway students have achieved their Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards in participating in the Global Citizen Award, funded by Irish Aid. The award seeks to support people to reflect and take action in relation to international engagement. Students that volunteer overseas are invited to engage in training, local volunteering and action projects to achieve this national award. The EIL Cultural Engagement programme annually sees students apply to volunteer in an international programme.

Washington Ireland Programme

The Washington-Ireland Program for Service and Leadership (WIP) is a six-month program of personal and professional development that brings university students from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to Washington, DC for summer internships and leadership training. The CKI would like to extend congratulations to this year's winner, Jason Sherlock, final year BA Economics, Sociology and Political Science at NUI Galway and active community leader on campus.
