Community-Focused Education Projects

We value our strong links to local communities in the west of Ireland as well as similar work in other parts of the country. A key priority is making resources, skills and information available through outreach programmes for both adults and children to support communities investigating their heritage. In particular we have run a Diploma in Archaeology programme for many years in several locations in the west of Ireland on which a number of staff members teach. We are also involved in promoting schools archaeology. We are developing research on community education projects in the public archaeology research cluster and one postgraduate researcher is investigating the role of archaeology in primary school classrooms.
