"My Story, My Words: Language and Migration" takes place at NUI Galway on September 29th, 2017 Hardiman Research Building Room G010 This event, organised by Dr. Anne O'Connor and Dr. Andrea Ciribuco, will bring together academics from different European countries, migrants, performers, NGO workers, and various cultural mediators and activists to talk about the language journeys of migrants.

On the recommendation of the French Embassy in Ireland, the Prime Minister of France, Monsieur Manuel Valls, has appointed Dr Sylvie Lannegrand (Discipline of French) Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes académiques. This prestigious award is to recognise Dr Lannegrand’s outstanding contribution to French Studies and to furthering exchanges between France and Ireland. The award will be presented by the French Ambassador on 22nd November 2016.

Professor Paolo Bartoloni’s new book, Objects in Italian Life and Culture: Fiction, Migration, and Artificiality, Palgrave Macmillan, 2016, was launched on October 11th at NUI Galway by Professor Derek Duncan, University of St. Andrews. The launch was introduced by the Registrar and Deputy President, and the Head of the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, Dr. Kate Quinn.
