Biography

Lorraine Tansey is the Student Volunteer Coordinator of the Community Knowledge Initiative at the Institute for Lifecourse and Society. Lorraine's EDD thesis is focused on student volunteering and social justice. She has a Masters in Education from the University of British Columbia, Canada. As the coordinator of NUI Galway's student volunteering programme, ALIVE, Lorraine has developed a number of resources to support student volunteers and is a member of the National Volunteering Strategy Implementation Group appointed by the Minister.

Research Interests

Lorraine's current areas of interest include nonformal learning, student engagement, citizenship development and the role of third level institutions in active citizenship. Lorraine has sat on Boards and supported the Galway Volunteer Centre, the Professional Association of Volunteer Managers Ireland, Volunteering Ireland, and the national steering group for the European Year of Volunteering 2011.
