Summer 2022 Celebrations - Virtual graduates from 2020 and 2021

For those graduates who were invited to a virtual conferring in 2020 and 2021, we hope to hold a commemorative gathering in the summer of 2022.  To allow us to contact you in the future about this event, please ensure that your contact details are up-to-date on our alumni network database: www.nuigalway.ie/alumni-friends/updateyourdetails

Information for our 2020 and 2021 virtual and in absentia  graduates

  • Will I still receive my degree parchment? We know that our graduates require proof of graduation in order to pursue employment or further education opportunities. For this reason, all graduates have been conferred in absentia or virtually and their degree parchments have been posted through the mail to their home address. It is an important document, so make sure to keep it safe.
  • I have already reserved a graduation robe for the virtual conferring. Phelan Conan will keep all robe bookings open on their system until such time as your on-campus celebration takes place. They will also facilitate 2020 and 2021 graduates to use their robe bookings for family photos at this stage and rehire them for your on-campus celebration at no extra cost. Alternatively, you can apply now for a refund. Please contact Phelan Conan directly about your booking. info@phelanconan.com
  • My virtual conferring took place in spring or summer 2020 or summer or autumn 2021. Will I have an opportunity to celebrate on campus? Yes. We are hoping to hold on-campus meet-ups for all our 2020 and 2021 graduates, when we can do so. We made this commitment to those graduates in 2020 and 2021.
  • Why was the Winter 2020 Virtual Conferring cancelled? Last year, stricter restrictions on travel and congregation, and the resulting inability of many students to meet with family and friends, caused us to cancel our main virtual conferring ceremonies in Winter based on student feedback at the time. This year, the restrictions on travel and congregation greatly eased, and while we couldn't host large numbers of graduands and guests on campus, we hope that our graduands were able to meet safely in small groups of family and close friends at home during their virtual conferring ceremonies to celebrate the milestone.
  •  I may not be in Ireland in for the celebratory event. What if I can’t travel to the postponed celebration? As is the case with all conferring ceremonies, some graduates may find that they are not able to travel to Galway for the event once it has been rescheduled. We will stream the event online so that graduates and their friends and families can watch in on the day.
